Artificial intelligence executives from Anthropic PBC, OpenAI and Alphabet Inc.’s Google are slated to attend the Group of Seven summit, a gathering of world leaders that gets underway next week in France.

OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Google’s Demis Hassabis and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei are among the executives attending the event, according to a list released by the French presidential office. The companies confirmed their attendance at the G7 summit.

Leaders have expressed interest in learning about the latest technology and potential opportunities and threats ahead. An OpenAI spokesperson said the company plans to discuss those topics at G7 generally but declined to get specific. Anthropic and Google also didn’t elaborate on the plans other than confirming that their executives would be present.

The meeting marks a rare moment when leading AI lab leaders — normally fierce competitors — come together to discuss common goals. Earlier this year, Amodei and Altman declined to hold hands on stage at an event hosted by the government of India. It was a much-discussed sign of awkwardness that reflected the tension between the two companies.

The AI pioneers are confronting broader concerns about the rapid pace of AI development and potential job loss. OpenAI and Anthropic are also under additional pressure to demonstrate the strength of their business models ahead of much-anticipated initial public offerings.
