China is accelerating the establishment of rules governing the recycling and reuse of wind and solar equipment and aims to set up a closed-loop system for waste from the industry before 2030, China Central Television reported on Sunday.
National Development and Reform Commission officials said the system would cover the full supply chain of waste recovery and utilization as China rolls out measures to support circular-economy development during the 2026-2030 period, according to CCTV.
The government aims to address shortcomings in recycling waste generated by the industry, including from electric vehicle batteries, wind energy and photovoltaic equipment, it said.
China will strictly implement requirements for scrapping EVs together with their batteries and crack down on illegal recycling and dismantling activities, CCTV reported. Separately, authorities will support national key laboratories focused on resource recycling and will upgrade dismantling capacity for used machinery, vehicles and electronic products.
