Patrizia Plans to Invest £1 Billion in Building UK Houses

Patrizia SE plans to invest £1 billion ($1.3 billion) in UK housing developments following a meeting between the company’s chief executive officer and Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

The German asset manager could support the construction of 4,000 homes across the country, according to a statement Thursday. Patrizia currently has more than £100 million investment capacity in London housing and it will raise and deploy additional funds from institutional clients, the company added.

The investment comes as the UK government tries to encourage homebuilding after previously promising to deliver 1.5 million homes by 2029, a target it is set to miss at present construction rates . The government is also preparing for its first budget under Burnham, who replaced Keir Starmer this summer.

Patrizia will work with mayors and local partners to “channel long-term institutional capital into the places where housing is needed most,” said CEO Asoka Wöhrmann, who met with Burnham at the British Embassy in Berlin.

The firm has financing to build out a development at Walworth Corners in the London district of Elephant and Castle. It has also invested in housing projects in Cardiff, Birmingham, Reading and Southampton.
