Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said it’s shutting off power to some customers in northern and central California after dry weather and gusty winds elevated the risk of wildfires.

The utility’s latest Public Safety Power Shutoff forecast calls for preventive outages in 17 counties and three tribal areas on Sunday and Monday, including Napa County on both days.

Shutoffs may affect 12,200 customers, PG&E said. Power cuts are also expected in parts of Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Shasta, Solano, Tehama and Yolo counties on both days and in Lake County on Sunday.

Red-flag fire warnings are up across Shasta, Tehama and Glenn counties, including Redding, California, through 5 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The shutoffs turn an earlier threat into an active response after PG&E last week warned customers about heightened wildfire risk from gusty winds and low humidity.
