Start spreading the news: the FT Alphaville Pub Quiz returns to New York City next month.

Thanks to the kind support of Basic Capital we’re returning to our usual haunt of Houston Hall on 17 November, armed with several rounds of fun (and sometimes fiendish) financial trivia.

This is your chance to assemble your nerdiest friends, delete Facebook, skip the gym and get studying to compete for eternal glory (plus a mug and a t-shirt).

The format is the same: we’ll ask you a load of questions covering the sort of the topics you might read about in the Financial Times, you’ll answer them. Or, at least, some of them. Can anyone c-c-c-c-combo break the recent run of high-frequency traders taking the top spot stateside?

Here’s what you need to know.

What:

Seven rounds of finance-themed questions in a classic pub quiz (aka 🇺🇸 trivia night 🇺🇸) format, covering everything from currencies to current events, CDS to CDOs and much more.

Tickets are $35pp, and include three drinks per person and lots of tasty food served on platters. Vegan, gluten-free and halal options available. Payment will be required upfront.

Examples of recent quizzes can be found here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here. Just remember that it’s mainly about having fun.

When:

Tuesday 17 November. Sign in from 5:45pm, quiz to start at 6:30pm. The quiz should be wrapped up by 10pm-ish.

Where:

Houston Hall, on 222 West Houston St. The nearest subway stop is Houston Street Station on the 1 line, but West 4th St (A, B, C, D, E and F lines) is just a short walk away.

Why:

You will receive the following things:

— Food
— An opportunity to test your brain
— An opportunity to hang out with other high-quality human capital

You may receive the following:

— A thrilling buzz
— A heady excitement
— An incomparable joie de vivre
— WINNER’S MUG WINNER’S MUG WINNER’S MUG

Also, fun. Hang out with fellow nerds! Be given some free stuff (again, thanks to Basic Capital)! Spend a few hours not on your phone! Have something to talk about at Thanksgiving! Eat, drink, and lightly exercise your grey matter!

How:

Email [email protected] with the subject line PQNYCNOV26.† Max team size is six, minimum is four. We’d ideally like teams of six to maximise attendance (and, possibly, your chances of victory), so get emailing your nerdiest friends.

For your entry to be complete, you must:
— CC all team members
— give the mobile number of the team captain
— state your team’s name
— tell us the omnivore/vegetarian/vegan split across your team
— let us know if you have any other dietary requirements

If you have no friends that happen to like financial and economic trivia (or no friends), then email us to say you want to be put on a team of stragglers. We’ll probably be creating at least one Suicide Squad-style team of Randos.

Tickets may go very quickly — so don’t wait around. Once your entry is confirmed, a member of the Alphaville Meatverse Innovations™️ task force will follow up with payment details.

Space is limited and tables will be allocated first-pay-first-served.

Team names:

PUNS, PEOPLE.

† If you can’t pass this challenge, the quiz is going to be tough for you.
