Stellantis CEO Dismisses Idea of Separating European, US Brands

Stellantis NV Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa rejected the notion of separating the group’s European and US brands, saying the company’s strategy is based on all 14 of them “playing their unique role.”

“It is not plausible at all,” Filosa told Bloomberg Television Monday at the Paris Motor Show when asked about the idea of a separation of brands like Citroen and Fiat from Jeep and Ram. Stellantis develops technologies globally for all its models, including powertrains and computing architecture, and each brand will use that as a base, he added.

Filosa has been reviewing the group’s strategy as part of an effort to better allocate spending among its brands, many of which cater to the same mass-market customers. The company’s shares traded in Milan are down nearly 60% this year, the worst-performing stock in Europe’s Stoxx 600 Index.

Stellantis is featuring more than 60 vehicles across eight brands in the French capital, including nine concept cars, at a stand roughly the size of an American football field. The offensive marks a shift for a group that had axed much of its spending on car shows.

New offerings include the all-electric Citroën 2CV based on tech underpinnings from its Chinese partner Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. Stellantis also announced plans this year to deepen its ties with Dongfeng Motor Corp.

Filosa has said the multiple Chinese partnerships offer a way to address excess European capacity without having to shut down plants.

“We need to keep working day by day on our execution,” Filosa said. After losing money again last year, Stellantis “already crossed the point to be profitable again,” he added.

The manufacturer, created by the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler and France’s PSA Group, is “not at all” considering selling its Maserati sportscar marque, he said.
