Global bond markets are selling off sharply, sending government borrowing costs to multiyear highs as investors contend with energy shocks, mounting public debt and expectations that interest rates will stay higher for longer.

So what is driving the sell-off and why does it matter? How far could yields rise, which markets are most exposed, and what should investors be watching?

Join us for a live Ask an Expert Q&A with Robin Wigglesworth, editor of the FT’s financial blog Alphaville, co-host of The Story of Money podcast and author of A Fabulous Debt, a history of the bond market; and Ian Smith, the FT’s senior markets correspondent. They will be answering your questions on the turmoil in global bond markets and what could happen next.

The session will take place here, in a text-based Q&A, from 1pm to 2pm BST on Thursday October 8.

Post your question ahead of time via the box, or submit a question as the conversation unfolds.
